24" × 132" stop bar road stencil – Wisconsin DOT standard for intersections and highways

Overview

The 24" × 132" straight line stencil stop bar is a two-piece LDPE plastic template for painting stop bars on roadways at intersections and pedestrian crossings. At 1/16" thick, it is flexible and rollable for transport and storage, and meets Wisconsin DOT specifications for stop bar placement and line weight.

The stencil marks the precise stopping point for approaching vehicles before crosswalks and intersections. Once paint dries, the stencil flexes to break the bond between paint and plastic, allowing dry paint to peel away cleanly (oil-based paints excluded). It is a durable alternative to permanent signage for high-traffic intersections.

Primary Applications

  • Intersections: Stop bars at vehicle approach points before crosswalks and traffic signals.
  • Highway entrances & exits: Clear stop positioning at ramp terminals and merge points.
  • Pedestrian crossings: Visual stopping reference to protect foot traffic at marked crossing zones.
  • Municipal & DOT programs: Standardized road marking across multiple intersections or jurisdictional sites.

A stop bar stencil is a visual marking typically found on roadways at intersections or pedestrian crossings. It consists of a thick, solid horizontal line, often white, sometimes accompanied by the word stop and a solid rectangular bar. This marking is positioned perpendicular to the direction of the approaching vehicles.

The primary purpose of a stop bar stencil is to indicate to drivers the precise point where they should come to a complete stop before entering a crosswalk or intersection. It serves as a clear visual indicator, instructing drivers to halt their vehicles behind the bar to allow for safe pedestrian passage or to yield to oncoming traffic.

These stencils are critical for traffic management and safety, ensuring that drivers stop at the designated point, promoting safe interaction between pedestrians and vehicles and providing a clear indication of where vehicles must halt before proceeding further.
